Review of NETGEAR PR2000 (Trek) Travel Router and Range Extender

Mobile warriors, rejoice! I could sum up this review with those three words, but that's hardly enough detail, no? The NETGEAR PR2000 is a unique, specialized product but manages to be very easy to set up and use. Its footprint is incredibly small -- only about 3.3 inches square -- and can be powered either by plugging directly into the wall or via USB. This makes it ultra-convenient. Plus, it's actually three products in one: Range extender Wi-Fi Bridge for Ethernet devices Mobile Wi-Fi router and hotspot The PR2000 also allows for USB file sharing over the Wi-Fi network! So, it's becoming clear that the PR2000 solves a variety of problems encountered in the home and while travelling. Let's dive deeper into what it can do. NETGEAR PR2000 (Trek) As a Range Extender Range extenders are purpose built devices that "hook on" to an existing Wi-Fi connection as provided by a wireless router and amplify that signal to extend coverage beyond the range of that router. For example, let's say a dead zone in coverage exists on your porch. A range extender could be placed halfway between the porch area and the location of the main router to bring a...

Unbricking DM111Pv2 modem?

Hi all! I come here after asking on Netgear forums . I bricked my good DM111Pv2 modem upgrading its firmware via web interface to version 2.00.30. Now the power indicator blinks red-green, it has no network activity at all (as checked using wireshark), it doesn't accept tftp transitions. Using a USB to UART Bridge Controller with chip CP2012 and minicom I can see some messages from the boot process: --------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to minicom 2.7 OPTIONS: I18n Compiled on Jan 1 2014, 09:30:18. Transform the NETGEAR EX6200 into a Wi-Fi Router with DD-WRT

Introducing: DD-WRT for the NETGEAR EX6200. [Download DD-WRT for NETGEAR EX6200 at MyOpenRouter] The EX6200 is naturally a Wifi Range Extender -- now, it gets a special upgrade using DD-WRT open source firmware. DD-WRT will transform this Range Extender into a full featured Wifi Router. By default, the EX6200 has 5 LAN ports and no WAN port. DD-WRT allows you to use one of the LAN ports as a WAN port + 4 LAN ports. Since there are differences in features, I'm going to explain a few of the changes when using it with DD-WRT. In the picture below you can see that once you have flashed DD-WRT, you will have one WAN port, which is port 5 on the router. The LED with label "Connected" will show WAN status, once it lights up you are connected to WAN either through a cable connection or wifi connection, e.g. Client Bridge. The wifi lights will only display if the radio is online or offline. NETGEAR logo is used as diag light indicating DD-WRT diag events, e.g. if you press Save or Apply in the web, this light will confirm this action. The WPS button on the back is being used as...

wndr4700 internal drive not detected?

I've tried a Samsung 1tb, Seagate 1tb, Seagate 500gb WD 320gb, VelociRaptor 80 gb, and Ntfs, fat32 ext4, the 500gb seagate will make the lights (all of them) flash and look like it's trying but fails and it seems to reboot and try again but it never comes online. The others don't seem to be detected at all and it will boot but nothing shows up in the admin page, the samsung 1gb that does not work internally works fine if I put it in a usb 2.0 external enclosure. I see their is a modded version of the netgear fw here, but no mention of anything that looks like it would fix this, that leaves an old open-wrt Kamikaze fw that I can't find the actual img and my open-wrt exp is that I'm not exp enough to get open-wrt working, any suggerstions? Thanks.. http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/wndr4700

AP mode and Dynamic DNS service, is it possible?

My home network setup goes like this: Alice router (router/modem) and one of its uplinks running to my Netgear WNDR3400v2 running DD-WRT v24-sp2 to its WAN uplink. My Alice box is running the DHCP service while my Netgear is in AP mode however, when in AP mode the feature to run a dynamic service disables. So I flashed my Netgear with dd WRT and can't seem to figure out if I can run my NG in some non-DHCP mode, receive its IP addressing from the Alice router/modem all while running the Dynamic DNS service. Any thoughts?

Telnet enable Wn2000RPT

Hi everyone, I have looked around to find an answer to my issue, but to no avail. I am trying to convert a WN2000RPT (no version written on the back, so assum V1) to openwrt or DD-WRT. However, my understanding is that the first stage is to "telneenable" the extender. I have tryied and followed all the telnet enable methodes and versions that I could find, wether the python version, C version or windows version, as well as using the three different official firmwares, but to no avail. I keep getting "connection refused" or with windows test, "send failed 10057". An nmap of the extern shows only 2 ports opened (80, 3333). Has anyone managed to access this extender via telnet or convert it to DD-WRT or openwrt? What do I do wrong? I have been on this for a few days now, so any help will be welcome. Cheers, Kermit

Is your ISP robbing you?

$

QUESTION What internet speed are you paying for? ANSWER If you are paying for a speed over 10 megabytes, check the equipment your ISP provided you. Cable/DSL/wireless etc. If it has a 10/100 port/ports that you are being robbed. If you are paying for less than 10 megabytes then you are ok. EXPLANATION 10/100 ports will give you a transfer speed of 0-12.5 Megabytes per second even though you may see 100MBps as you connection speed. Don’t confuse the two. Connection speed does not = to transfer speed. Transfer speed - the speed at which a file is transferred from point A to point B. Try this Share a file on 1 pc and try to copy it from another on a 10/100 network. (Don’t use wireless to run the test use Ethernet Cables?) Note the peak transfer speed. Now run a speed test from http://www.speedtest.net/ Or your preferred speed test site. If you are paying for a connection greater than 10 Megabytes (e.g. 20 Megabytes) the speed test will say its 20 Megabytes per second. How can this be possible if the maximum transfer speed of a 10/100 equipment is 12.5 Megabytes per second? Something to think about? Forget...

I recently got this email SPAM, so is my email address being harvested from this site? It seems very specific and I assuming spam as it has no links that actually go to myopenrouter.com. Anyone else seen this? (sorry don't know which forum is appropriate for this post)
