How to Set Up OpenVPN On Your Android Phone

Sticking with the theme of Internet security, I recently became interested in securing my mobile Internet connection with a VPN as well as my connection at home. Fortunately, most VPN providers are aware that users need multiple connections with a single account, and both providers I've tried personally allow for this. This means my connection to my VPN can be active at home, plus I can be out and about on a 4G mobile connection and still remain protected. Here's how to make it happen. You won't believe how easy it is. DISCLAIMER: Every VPN provider is different, and the tutorial I include here works for my provider of choice, and may very well work for several others, if not most of them. However, you should read your VPN providers' documentation carefully to determine if alternative or additional steps are necessary to use this app correctly. This tutorial WILL NOT WORK FOR EVERY SETUP and rather is meant to give a good idea of what it takes to get one going. Get a VPN Account Yes, that's right. Not everything in life is free, and you'll have to pay for a quality VPN connection. It's worth every penny. One of...

Review of NETGEAR WNDR3400v2 N600 Wireless Router (With DD-WRT Availability)

The NETGEAR N600 - WNDR3400 may be listed on the lower end of the latest routers available from NETGEAR... but we got a chance to give the WNDR3400v2 a spin and were quite impressed with it! It comes with most of the extra features the more expensive routers from NETGEAR have, such as a wireless guest network, live parental controls and their NETGEAR Genie App. It also boasts, and in our tests proved out, a wireless range similar to the WNDR3700 and WNDR3800 -- which in those tests, was much higher than our trusty WNR3500L router I have used for a couple of years. Basic Setup of the WNDR3400v2 NETGEAR makes it very easy to setup and connect to the router once you have it installed and powered up. They provide a setup wizard and the NETGEAR Genie app that takes you through the steps needed for basic operation. If you are connected to the router via wired Ethernet, then going to http://www.routerlogin.net/ in your web browser (or for advanced users, 192.168.1.1) still works as well. If you wish to setup the router wirelessly, they have the name and password for the router on the pastic bag the router comes...

WNDR3700v2 Not detecting USB HDD

Hi there guys joined a couple of years ago but never got round to posting, so HELLO! I'm new to this game so please bear with me, I've had this router for some time and never had a problem, until now. I've recently purchased a nice 3tb external hard drive (Buffalo LB3.0TU2) to store my media for my new smart TV (Which i now find wont recognise the HD either). So I've been trying to get it to work via the readyshare function on my router. Unfortunately I'm getting nothing. When I go into USB settings and select allow specific devices it detects the hard drive thee and I can set it as an allowed device. However when it coems to accessing it in any way its as if it isn't there at all. Your collective knowledge would really be appreciated. I have already tried formatting it from NTFS to FAT32 (Using GParted Live) and even partitioned it in half but still no joy. Would installing a customer firmware on the router help to resolve my issues? Thanks in advance!

Limit Wireless bandwidth on WNR2000v3?

Hey guys, I was curious if any of these FW's have the option to limit wireless bandwidth. Long story short, my newish roommate is killing my already bad rural DSL connection with her skype calls to her boyfriend. It's not just an hour here or there, it's whenever she isn't at work (she works ~20 hrs/week) shes video skyping with him. I understand her side, or like to think I do. I was hoping that one of these Firmwares would help me limit her wireless connectivity. So far I have tried the following in netgear firmware: Set wireless speed to 56kbps - Didn't seem to affect much Set QoS and put her as lowest priority and the connected devices to high/highest priority - Seemed to help a little but still spikes pretty badly at times. To clarify, I don't want to kill her skyping, just want to slow it down a bit. Any help is appreciated. I'm decent with computers, but far from network admin haha.

I recently received a brand new R6300 from the folks at MyOpenRouter. Since there hasn't been any guide on unbricking, I'm going to show you some pics from the inside of the R6300! I'm not going to write a full review or unbricking guide here, as the unbricking process works exactly as described in the WNR3500L unbrick guide. The pinouts can be taken from my pic. Note: When powering on, you have to be really quick to press CTRL+C in order to get to the CFE prompt -- the WNR3500L is a bit slower here. As for technical information -- as other sites have already published a lot of info, I'm going to post only a few specs that I haven't found in other places. This unit has 64K NVRAM space, which is pretty cool and allows users to store a fair amount of config values in flash. It has two flash chips: one 2MB serial, and one 128MB NAND flash. The 128MB allows users to store a whole lot of functionality in the future. I already have a set of features in mind that will be integrated into the firmware :) I have also added a little extension cable...

(DGN1000 Modem Router) Disconnection in power supply during firmware update

Hi, I don’t know if I’m asking this question in the correct forum or not, so I apologize in advance if I’m not right. I was in the beginning of the firmware update of my Netgear DGN1000 Modem Router that a disconnection happened in the power supply. After that when I turn on the modem the power led stays in the red color and NOT change to green. Meanwhile when I ping the modem with 192.168.0.1 I don’t receive any response. It seems that it totally bricked. I tried to flash it with tftp2 method but as the modem doesn’t response, it did not work too. I read somewhere, Jtag method can help. Please explain what is Jtag and how the method can be performed? Would you please advise me if there is any other specific method or recovery tool to flash its firmware? Thank you in advance,

(NASDAQGM: NTGR) (www.netgear.com) , a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, today announced support for Beamforming+ (www.netgear.com/80211ac) on the NETGEAR R6300 802.11ac Dual Band Gigabit WiFi Router and the NETGEAR A6200 802.11ac Dual Band WiFi USB Adapter (www.netgear.com/landing/fastestwifi/) . Beamforming+ is also available through a free firmware upgrade for current NETGEAR customers of the R6300 WiFi Router and the A6200 WiFi USB Adapter. The new router firmware improves WiFi performance and range when connecting to other WiFi devices. You’ll see even more improvement in WiFi performance and reliability when you connect your R6300 Router to a PC or laptop configured with an A6200 Adapter or with an 802.11ac device with Beamforming support. A second R6300 acting as a client bridge would also provide a higher performance solution for critical video over WiFi applications. NETGEAR Beamforming+ is a smart, signal-focusing technology that extends coverage, reduces interference and dead spots, and boosts the speed of your 802.11ac WiFi connections. Beamforming+ refers...

N900 - WNDR4500 Wireless Disconnects

I recently got a Netgear N900, and was really excited about all of the advertised features straight out of the box. I was replacing a Linksys WRT-54G, running DD-WRT, and that thing was bulletproof. However, I'm discovering very quickly that the new Netgear is not as solid. I configured both the 2.4 and 5 ghz wireless networks, and all of my devices are able to connect to the router. However, after a day or so, the 2.4ghz gets spotty (only one of my devices can recognize the 5ghz network). My devices still show connected, but the wireless signal seem to be disconnected from the internet. Occasionally, I'll load a web page and the basic text data will load without any graphics. Other times - or other sites - simply won't load. Rebooting the router seems to solve the problem. This problem seems very similar to the one described about the 3800 here: http://www.myopenrouter.com/forum/thread/30986/Random-disconnects-from-Intern... /p> Is it the hardware or the firmware? I'd love to upgrade back to the familiar DD-WRT interface, if it's working any better. Firmware Version V1.0.1.36_1.0.63

WNDR 4500 N900 bricked. Does anyone know how to fix?

My Netgear WNDR 4500 N900 Router bricked itself during an auto update and I can't get it to recover. I've read everything on NEtgear's website tried the tftp2 push and nothing works. I use the router to distribute WIFI to my Laptop, Game Console and Cell phone. It is connected to my Motorola ECE12 modem on Xfinity. I am using Win 7 64bit SP1 and ethernet cabling to the router from the modem. Trouble is I can't get the firmware to install. The Power light is slowly flashing green which means the firmare is corrupt. Netgear support has been worthless, I don't even know why they call themselves support. Anyone encounter this and overcome it? Please tell me how!

I am connecting a wireless extender WN2000RPT. It is prompting me for a name to give the SSID of this extender, and my question is, can I give it the same name as my wireless SSID? Suppose my wireless SSIS is "zoom" and the installatoin software for WN2000RPT is prompting me to accept "zoom_ext" can I jsut change this to zoom, and, in effect, simply increase to coverage under "zoom?" Or will I create a conflict by doing this? Thanks
